Dmitri Dmitrijevitsj Sjostakovitsj (Russisch: ??????? ?????????? ??????????) (Sint-Petersburg, 25 september [O.S. 12 september] 1906 &#150; Moskou, 9 augustus 1975) was een Russisch componist en pianist.

For the first time on DVD here are Leonard Bernstein's critically acclaimed mid-1980's live performance with the Vienna Philharmonic - also featuring his spoken introduction to the two symphonies.
