Na 3 jaar in het gevechtsveld keert generaal Marcus Vinicius terug naar Rome. Eenmaal weer terug ontmoet hij Lygia en wordt hij verliefd op haar. Ze is een christen en ze wil niks met een brute moordenaar te maken hebben. Langzamerhand begint ze wat te voelen voor Marcus, maar dan dreigt het gevaar van keizer Nero die de christenen begint te vervolgen.
