1957; Ali is een dief die zich aansluit bij de FLN (Front de Libération Nationale), die strijden voor een vrij Algerije. Dit omdat zij de politie wegdrijven die geassocieerd wordt met het kolonialisme. De Franse overheersers nemen steeds drastischer maatregelen tegen de FLN, wat al snel een landelijke revolutie ontketent.
