Post Description
Georg Philipp Telemann (1681-1767) was a German composer of the Baroque period. A friend of both Johann Sebastian Bach and Georg Frederic Handel, Telemann is known to have composed over 3,000 musical works over his long lifetime. Those works include concertos, sacred cantatas, overture suites, and other choral pieces.
This compact disc contains recordings of one of Telemann's viola concertos, recorder suites, and selections from "Tafelmusik." These are excellent examples of Telemann’s creativity and versatility. The Capella Istropolitana, under the direction of Richard Edlinger, and various soloists play each of these works with tremendous virtuosity. This recording, which earned the honor of a “Rosette” for special merit in the Penguin Guide to Recorded Classical Music, has long been one of my favorites from the Baroque period. Most highly recommended.
