The Tudors, the epic series about English King Henry VIII and his six wives. Both The Tudors and The Borgias are set during the Renaissance area and are dramas based on notorious historic personalities.

"I can guarantee you've never seen a family quite like this before, nor could you make up the outrageous twists and turns of their epic saga if your life depended on it.
The Borgias a Renaissance Era Drama on Showtime Cable TV
Showtime Networks has ordered ten one hour episodes of The Borgias, set in the Renaissance era. The Borgias is about the notorious Renaissance era dynasty and is a period drama that will continue in the style of The Tudors.
Jeremy Irons will star as Rodrigo Borgia, the cunning and manipulative patriarch of The Borgia family in Italy. The period drama will tell the story of Rodrigo Brogia, his beautiful daughter Lucrezia Borgia and of his Machiaveillan sons. The Borgia family had a reputation for being power hungry and conniving that survives to this day. The Borgia family became the most powerful family of the Italian Renaissance era.
The Borgias was described by Showtime as a complex, unvarnished portrait of one of history's' most intriguing and infamous dynastic families. The Showtime TV series begins as the family's patriarch Rodrigo (Jeremy Irons), becomes Pope, propelling Rodrigo, his two Machiavellian sons Cesare and Juan, and Rodrigo's scandalously beautiful daughter, Lucrezia, to become the most powerful and influential family of the Italian Renaissance. The power and influence, and abuse of it eventually leads to the demise of the Borgia family. As Machiavelli once said about his friends, the Borgias, "Politics have no relation to morals."
The Borgias will be produced as a Canadian-European Treaty co-production in a manner similar to the production elements of THE TUDORS. The Renaissance era series will go into production in the spring of 2010 for a debut in early 2011.
