The Metal Opera is het eerst album van Tobias Sammet's  project opera, Avantasia. Dit is een concept album. Verschillende muzikanten hebben hier hun medewerking aan verleend. Waaronder: Sharon den Adel, Michael Kiske, Timo Tolkki.
