Mr. Moto is een Japanse geheim agent, gecreëerd door John P. Marquand, en was voor 20th Century Fox een manier om in te haken op het succes van de Charlie Chan-reeks.

Van 1937 tot 1939 speelde  Peter Lorre de titelrol in de uit acht films bestaande Mr. Moto-reeks
