The Bike Boy (2003 / 40 min)
Winner of the Audience Award at the 2003 Busan Asian Short Film Festival,
Yoo Ji Tae's first directorial effort is a mellow coming-of-age romance set in
the countryside. The simple, unrushed story follows naive schoolboy Min Su
who has a crush on Ki Ran. Min Su tries to impress Ki Ran with his bicycle,
but she has also prepared something for him.
How Does the Blind Dream (2005 / 43 min)
Winner of the Fuji Film Award at the 2006 Busan Asian Short Film Festival,
Yoo's second short stars Oh Dal Soo as a blind acupuncturist whose monotonous
life becomes colorful after meeting a female customer (Jeon Hye Jin). Her sexual
jokes and provocative presence awaken his desires and imagination, bringing the
heat, sensuality, and samba of a Brazilian carnival into his world.
Out of My Intention (2007 / 24 min)
Yoo's first film to get a theatrical release, Out of My Intention is a drive down memory
lane that blurs past and present, reality and imagination. On a gloomy summer's day,
a middle-aged man (Lee Dae Yeon) is on his way home, and reminiscing about his first
love. As he drives though the city, past memories - and his girlfriend (Jo An) - return to
his side. Winner of Special Mention Award at Short Shorts Film Festival & Asia 2008.
Invitation (2009 / 9 min)
An homage to the 1962 French film La Jetee, Invitation stars Eum Ji Won and Yoo Ji Tae
himself as a bored writer and a career woman, two alienated urbanites in the big city whose
paths cross by chance. Yoo uses still photos, narration, and animation to create a surreal
backdrop for this atypical love story.
