Claude Debussy (born Achille-Claude Debussy, Aug 22, 1862 in Saint-Germain-en-Laye, France - died Mar 25, 1918 in Paris, France) was among the most influential composers of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.
Debussy is considered the founder and leading exponent of musical Impressionism (although he resisted the label), and his adoption of non-traditional scales and tonal structures was paradigmatic for many composers who followed.
One of the most enigmatic performers of the twentieth century, Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli was also one of the most compelling and, paradoxically, one of the least-heard pianists of his generation. Michelangeli was famous for having canceled nearly as many performances as he gave, and he committed little of his vast repertory to disc. Michelangeli was born on January 5, 1920 in Orzinuovi, Italy, he died Jun 12, 1995 in Lugano, Switzerland.
