Trivia:
# Phil Collins was contacted by director Taylor Hackford to record a song for the movie. Phil Collins had written "Against All Odds" in 1981 for his first solo album, "Face Value", and the song was originally entitled, "How Can You Just Sit There". Phil Collins left the song off of the album because he felt he had too many ballads on "Face Value" already. After Phil Collins's contact with Taylor Hackford, he recorded the song in two days, one day in New York, the other in Los Angeles.

# The helmets and uniforms used by the football team Jeff Bridges is playing for were from the now-defunct USFL's LA Express.

# Jeff Bridges modeled the character of 'Terry Brogan' on Bob Chandler, a Hall of Fame wide-receiver for the L.A. Raiders.

# Jeff Bridges was initially director Taylor Hackford's preferred choice for the lead in An Officer and a Gentleman (1982), but Bridges had a packed schedule that particular year (he starred in three big movies) and had to turn it down. Hackford kept Bridges in mind when creating the character of 'Terry Brogan' for this movie.

# James Woods and Jeff Bridges both loved working with Richard Widmark, and fondly remembered the late actor's love of pancakes. He used to have a plate waiting for him while shooting a scene, and Woods and Bridges would often hide it. Widmark refused to go back to shooting before the cakes had been recovered.

# The fictional football team named the L.A. Outlaws is supposed to be the L.A. Raiders.

# Taylor Hackford originally wanted Mark Knopfler to score the movie.

# "Against All Odds" won Phil Collins the Grammy Award for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance in 1985, and it was also nominated for the Academy Award for Best Original Song. Collins was the only nominee in the category not invited to sing his song on stage, and sat in the audience as Ann Reinking performed it. His perceived negative reaction shown on the telecast is considered to be one of the most awkward moments in the history of the ceremony, and has been a favorite reference for Dennis Miller to relate someone reacting in a horrified fashion.
