Papa Bue's Viking Jazzband   (47 cd's)





The second of two Storyville CD documenting Papa Bue Jensen's Viking Jazz Band during an era when Dixieland was far from popular, this set (subtitled "The Complete Original Recordings, Vol. 2") has all of Jensen's recordings from Dec. 1969-Nov. 1971, except for a German concert released elsewhere by Storyville. The excellent New Orleans-style band (which features trumpeter Finn Otto Hansen, singer Bjarne "Liller" Petersen and clarinetist Jorgen Svare) is heard in top form throughout the set. There are also a few guest appearances from veteran clarinetist Albert Nicholas. Well worth picking up by trad jazz fans, along with Volume One (Everybody Loves Saturday Night).
