De ontdekking van goud in Californië trekt goudzoekers naar het gebied die het leven verstoren van de Guerrero familie, die al generaties lang in het gebied woont. De Guerrero familie woont naast de Rancho Chico, waar Dermod D'Arcy deel van uitmaakt. Tijdens een feest, gehouden vanwege traditionele paardenraces, ontdekt een van de goudzoekers "Pathfinder", het uitzonderlijke snelle paard van Dermod en vraag Dermod dit paard aan de paardenrace te laten deelnemen. Dermod moet het opnemen tegen buurman Don José Guerrero, die zijn ranch verwedt voor de race. Dermod wint de race.
