Plot or synopsis :
Writer-director Ogigami Naoko explored Japanese characters adapting strange new 
environments with arthouse hits Glasses (Megane) and Seagull Diner (Kamome Shokudo). 
She gives another new variation to that theme with her sixth film Toilet, an offbeat comedy 
about cultural misunderstandings, family reconciliation, and the power of the toilet. 
Filmed entirely in Canada, Ogigami's first English-language film is her fifth film to feature 
veteran actress Motai Masako, starring here as a strong and silent grandmother who has 
to learn how to take care of her three Eurasian grandchildren without speaking a word of 
English. Having studied film in the United States, Ogigami takes a major artistic leap by 
bringing her unique Japanese comedic charm to an international stage, making Toilet a 
family comedy with true universal appeal. In addition to feuding about how to take care 
of their recently deceased mother's belongings, siblings Ray, Maurie, and Lisa also have 
to worry about what to do with their Japanese grandmother - whom they called "Baa-chan"
(Motai Masako). Unable to speak one word of English, Baa-chan is like a ghostly stranger 
to the three, hanging about the house toilet every morning for an unknown reason. 
Recognizing the emotional turmoil in the family, Baa-chan uses her philosophical knowledge 
to cure her grandchildren. As a result, the two generations slowly begin to break down the 
wall that separates their cultures and grow closer as a family.
