Jerry Lee Lewis - 1989 - Heartbreak




For decades, the Palomino in North Hollywood was L.A.'s top nightclub for country. And it was often the venue of choice for Jerry Lee Lewis, whose superb Palomino shows of 1979-85 can be heard on a number of Tomato CDs. Focusing exclusively on his country performances at the Palomino, Heartbreak reminds us that the Killer is as inviting a country singer as he is a rock & roller. From Don Gibson's "I Can't Stop Loving You" and Dottie West's "Careless Hands" to a number of Hank Williams classics (including "Cold, Cold Heart," "Your Cheatin' Heart" and "You Win Again"), this isn't country-pop, but down-home, crying-in-your-beer, honky tonk music at its most soulful and honest. The Killer's love of this music runs deep, and he doesn't hesitate to make sure we know it.
