Old Blind Dogs - The Gab o Mey (Scotland 2003)

Old Blind Dogs is een Schotse band die Celtic folk en traditionele Schotse folkmuziek spelen, ook met invloeden van rock, reggae en Middle Eastern music ritmes. De drie oprichters van de groep Ian F. Benzie, Buzzby McMillan en Jonny Hardie hebben elkaar ontmoet op een zogenaamde buskers' holiday in de Schotse Hooglanden in 1990, en na een zomer met elkaar te hebben gespeeld besloten zij verder te gaan als Old Blind Dogs. Dave Francis en Carmen Higgins kwamen daarna maar verlieten de band in 1992 voor het eerste album New Tricks werd opgenomen. Daarna veranderde de bezetting regelmatig, alleen Jonny Hardie bleef permanent trouw aan de groep.
In 2004, won Old Blind Dogs de Folk Band of the Year award van de Scots Traditional Music Awards. Gelijk werd Jim Malcolm de Songwriter of the Year.
De band toert regelmatig in het Verenigd Koninkrijk, de Verenigde Staten, Denemarken, Duitsland, Polen, Spanje, de VS, Groot-Brittannië, Rusland, Italië en Duitsland.

Old and blind maybe, but certainly not lame! Another superb album from the Dogs, with Jim Malcolm's gorgeous vocals leading the tremendous talent.
One of Jim's greatest assets is to be able to sing even the best-known of songs, and still reveal previously missed meanings - simply because he sings the story, not the folkiness.
With a night-visiting song, a sea-chanty, and a bothy ballad amongst others, Jim's talent can be well appreciated.
Wonderful music to back him up, and instrumental sets, with whistles, cittern, bass, fiddle, guitar, percussion, Galician and Border pipes.
Smooth vocals, resonant instrumentals, the best of today's Scottish folk.
