Op Valentijnsdag 1900 maken de leerlingen van het Appleyard College een uitstapje naar Hanging Rock, om daar een picknick te houden. Vier meisjes besluiten wat te struinen in het landschap, maar tot schrik van hun medeleerlingen keert slechts één van hen terug.

Arguably the first film of the Australian New Wave.

PAHR is a mysterious, meditative tale about a group from a girls' boarding school who go out for a picnic, and some vanish.  The disappearances affect the school, the town it's in, and the townspeople, in various ways.  

The interest in the film lies primarily in the idea that the disappearances might be supernatural...but may not be.  The gorgeous photography casts an eerie, dreamlike quality.
