Van Halen is een Amerikaanse hardrockband, opgericht in Pasadena, Californië in 1972. Ze hebben grootschalig succes genoten sinds de release van hun debuutalbum Van Halen (1978). Sinds 2007 heeft Van Halen wereldwijd 80 miljoen albums verkocht en de meeste nummer één-hits gehad in de Billboard Mainstream Rock-hitlijst. In de jaren tachtig hadden ze ook meer Billboard Hot 100-hits dan welke andere hardrock- of heavy metalband dan ook.
