Zonda Projeckt biography
Being currently one of the most admired bands among the prog circles of their own country, the Argentinean instrumental act ZONDA PROJECKT emerges as one of the most refined newcomers in the world of prog for the new millennium. The local musical press can't seem to stop praising them, either by reviewing their album "El Llanto Secreto de la Luna" or by reviewing their gigs. The band is based in Mendoza, located in an area full of deserts and hot winds: a climate that is very much related to the sort of magic evoked in and through their music. The most texturial and the jazziest aspects of 80s KING CRIMSON (and the mid-90s Crimsonian PROJEKCTS) is one of the most predominant influences from which ZONDA creates its own prog style. Other influences are drawn from contemporary jazz-rock, Jenkins-era SOFT MACHINE and classic CAMEL, also including a considerable amount of electronic avant-garde stuff in the ambiences and adornments that appear in many passages of their repertoire. The occasional presence of fusion-oriented material provides moments of sheer serenity among all the energy instilled that is usually found in the band's input. All things considered, the sound of ZONDA PROJECKT turns out to be original and peculiar in its own terms. 

The band got started as a trio: original members Ernesto Vidal [who also has a couple of solo albums in his résumé], Sebastián Rivas and Tuti Vegas were already veterans in their country's musical scene, with experience begun in the 70s. Guitarist Mario Mátar, yet another veteran, replaced Rivas while the material of "El Llanto Secreto de la Luna" was still in the recording process. In late 2003 the band expanded its line-up with the integration of a fourth member, Gabriel Correa, in the role of keyboardist.

ZONDA PROJECKT is particularly recommended to all true lovers of KING CRIMSON, CAMEL and jazz-tinged prog, who don't mind the presence of a highly technological twist in their melodic prog. This is, definitely, one of the most talented prog bands coming out of Argentina during the last decade: the way they manage to reinvent a musical source that shows its ancient influences, yet sounding fresh, makes them a progressive promise already fulfilled.
