Among the Speed Lovers in this modestly budgeted "regional" is real-life stock car racer Fred Lorenzen. William McGaha, the son of a mechanic, idolizes Lorenzen and dreams of the day that he, too, will excell on the race track. He gets his chance during a major stock-car competition in Atlanta. Most of the climactic scenes are culled from color news footage of actual racing events. In addition to starring in Speed Lovers, William McGaha also produced, directed and cowrote the film.
