Miley Cyrus bong incident sends Salvia sales skywards
TMZ
[HMG Celebrity News] As you'll recall, a video of Miley Cyrus apparently inhaling the contents of a bong was leaked on Friday, and it's had an effect on her career. Thought not the one she clearly intended. Thanks to her, sales of the drug Salvia have tripled.
The mild hallucinogen, which grows mostly in southern Mexico is legal in California and people who sell it say sales since Friday's stunt have gone up by 300%. Several smoke shops in the Los Angeles area say they're knee-deep in new customers, all asking for the stuff Miley was smoking.
Salvia is one of those things you only try once, because it's so intense, one employee tells TMZ.
But not everyone is happy about Cyrus actions; Salvia is already illegal in 15 states, and the wave of interest in trying the drug is being met by an equally fervent one to finally get it banned in California as well.
In 2007, former California State Assemblyman Anthony Adams tabled a bill to outlaw Salvia, and he's now planning a new effort to get it listed as a Class-1 controlled substance and withdrawn from sale.
Miley was a star and young kids are going to emulate her behavior, he told reporters. It's time for state and federal governments to renew their push for an outright ban.
So the race is on; Hundreds of wannabe pot-heads now want to buy it, and local lawmakers want to make it illegal. Who do you think should win this contest??
