Verenigde Staten Western 133 minuten geregisseerd door Howard Hawks met John Wayne, Montgomery Clift en Joanne Dru Tom Dunson is een groot en machtig vee bezitter. Samen met zijn geadopteerde zoon Matthew Garth gaat hij vee drijven van Texas naar Missouri. Maar onderweg gedraagt Tom Dunson zich zo tiranniek dat Matthew besluit met het vee ergens anders heen te gaan. Tom Dunson zweert wraak en achtervolgt.
