'It' volgt een groep kinderen, beter bekend als de 'Losers club', in het kleine stadje Derry, Maine. Op een dag wordt het stadje geterroriseerd door het bloeddorstigste monster It dat het op de kinderen voorzien heeft. Dit monster, dat de vorm van een clown genaamd Pennywise aanneemt, komt lijnrecht tegenover het groepje kinderen te staan dat er alles aan zal moeten doen om hem te verdrijven.
